Baking Soda, scientifically known as Sodium BiCarbonate, is mostly popular for its usage in baking. It makes the dough rise faster than natural yeast and there for the baking process much faster. But besides being a great baking ingredient, baking soda has a many household and health benefits too.

Treat heartburn - Heartburn or acidity, is painful and simply annoying. A night out for your favorite spicy food, chaat treat at the local shop or any other reason, acidity has the power to ruin the whole day (and maybe even the night) for you. Baking soda can help treat in this situation. Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of cold water and drink the mixture slowly. Save a scorched pot - Its a nightmare to clean a scorched pan with burnt food. But you can save a scorched pot easily with baking soda and water. Sprinkle a good amount of baking soda over it and add water to cover the burnt part. Boil it for some time. Let it sit for some time. Later, scrub the pan and the burnt bits will come off easily.
Homemade weed killer - You can sprinkle some baking soda over garden weeds that are growing inside wall cracks, pathways and other corners in your house. But do not use baking soda in your gardens because it can kill your other plants too.
Shoe deodorizer - Stinky shoes? It can be quite embarrassing. But luckily, baking soda can freshen bad smelling shoes too. Just sprinkle two table spoon of baking soda into thin pieces of fabric. Stuff these as bundles inside your shoes. Remove them when you want to wear your shoes again.
Drain Cleaner - If you mix baking soda and vinegar, it gives you the perfect and chemical free drain cleaner. Let the combination bubble up for 15 minutes in a bowl or mug, then pour it down into your drain hole. Wait 10 min and pour hot water down the drain.
