A set of handpainted and upcycled wooden bedside tables. The patterns are inspired by Mughal and Rajasthani Miniature paintings. The Bani Thani is the Monalisa of India, maybe even older than the Leonardo DaVinci masterpiece!
At Design5 Studio, I restore, repurpose and handpaint vintage wooden furniture pieces, picked out of various flea markets & junkyards which are my frequent hangouts. I am always on the lookout for discarded pieces that seem to be hiding a story under layers of dirt and neglect. Bringing old, worn out wooden vintage furniture pieces back to life brings an enormous amount of creative satisfaction to my heart. I repair, upcycle and handpaint these vintage furniture pieces myself. I don't want to hide the character of the piece by priming and sanding because I'm not trying to make it look new when it’s not. I feel it keeps the story of the piece authentic. These pieces become canvases for my ‘Functional Art’.
Being a restored product, it shows grain variation, so each Design5 product is slightly different. Design5 keeps its sustainability promise by minimising its carbon footprint by using clean recycled packing material and planting a tree for every wooden product sold.
